Description:
April 2021 marks the 53rd anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, more formally known as the Civil Rights Act of 1968. This piece of legislation was enacted to help create equality in neighborhoods across the country. More recent legislation has passed to continue to promote fair housing. For example, on January 1, 2020, California implemented two bills that define Section 8 and housing vouchers as a source of income. Rental owners cannot discriminate against sources of income and thus, can no longer deny Section 8 applicants based on their voucher.
